04-24-2013 Rhode Island’s State Senate passed gay marriage legislation by a comfortable 26-12 margin. This followed a vote by the House in January, 2013. The bill goes back to the House for a largely procedural vote. The Governor says he will sign the bill and did sign the bill on April 30, 2013. Rhode Island became the 10th state to recognize same-sex marriage. The legislation took effect on August 1, 2013.
